Where does the name “Smurfo” come from? Any special meaning?

Smurfo has been my name in NYC or more than a few years now, how I got it I may never remember!

You’re a part of WCKidsNYC, can you tell us what WC Kids is about, your part in the group, etc?

The WCKids stands for “wild crazy kids”. We are very exceptional at music art and the entertainment of everyone from hipsters and young minorities to stock brokers and advertising directors. Basically we DJ and host parties and I’m in charge of all things “art” to ensure that everything is visually tight.

Where did you grow up and how did it influence your creativity?

I grew up with my parents (also artists) in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn down the block from Pratt. Growing up in that neighborhood with all those weird hippie hackey-sackin painters made me who I am today. Thank you BK!

Describe your style/what are your favorite brands?

My style is street wear enthusiast meets intellectual and classy derelict . Brands I like are Acapulco Gold, Skulls, Ralph Lauren , J Lindenburg , in4mation and of course Cheap Monday.

Musicians, artists, other creatives you’re currently into?

Grimes, Juicy J, Domo Genesis, the gold whistle label artist I work with to say a few. I also really fuck with Dave Cho and Dee and Ricky. Wassap guys!

Have you ever gotten into any trouble being a graffiti artist? What about graffiti art makes it appealing to you?

Yea arrested for graffiti only twice…then theres the other trouble you get into like being chased, fights, dealing with the common man who feels the need to snitch on you, etc… but you know, thats kind of what makes it so fun.

Every day inspirations?

Mom, Dad, Chuck Norris, Dave Cho, Old English Malt Liquor, Michael Ian Black, Riff Raff, Mrs. Cortez.

Has social media or the Internet in general influenced your art or the creative world in general? 

Yes and no for me specifically, but in general it definitely has. I’m just more the type to go pick up the latest Juxtapose and read and look. Also my smart phone sucks so much!

Same question as above but how has fashion influenced it?

Same thing. It does. I can’t experience it due to my sketchy ass Android. So magaziness it, is! Haha

Future projects, goals?

To keep working with dope brands like you guys, to keep hosting parties in NYC and to learn how to swim and overcome my fear of water.
